How Revenue is Calculated
Net revenue represents what you actually earn after paying all Amazon fees. The formula we use is: Net Revenue = Gross Revenue - Total Fees - Total Product Cost. Where Gross Revenue = Selling Price × Units Sold, and Total Fees = Referral Fees + Fulfillment Fees + Storage Fees. Profit Margin = (Net Revenue / Gross Revenue) × 100%.
Real Example: Revenue for 300 Units
Let's calculate monthly revenue for a $29.99 product with 300 units sold. Your product cost is $12.00.
Step 1: Calculate Gross Revenue
Gross Revenue = Selling Price × Monthly Units
= $29.99 × 300 = $8,997.00
Step 2: Calculate Referral Fees
Referral Fee per Unit = $29.99 × 15% = $4.50
Total Referral Fees = $4.50 × 300 = $1,350.00
Step 3: Calculate Fulfillment Fees
Fulfillment Fee per Unit = $4.76
Total Fulfillment Fees = $4.76 × 300 = $1,428.00
Step 4: Calculate Total Product Cost
Total Product Cost = $12.00 × 300 = $3,600.00
Step 5: Calculate Net Revenue
Net Revenue = $8,997 - $1,350 - $1,428 - $50 - $3,600 = $2,569.00
Profit Margin = ($2,569 / $8,997) × 100% = 28.55%
Key Factors That Impact Revenue
- Selling Price: Higher prices increase revenue but may reduce sales volume
- Sales Volume: More units sold means more total revenue
- Product Cost: Lower costs improve margins significantly
- Amazon Fees: Referral and fulfillment fees directly reduce profits
