Understanding WFS Fees

WFS charges separately for fulfilling an order and storing its inventory. Fulfillment depends on packaged weight, dimensional weight and size thresholds. Storage depends on packaged volume, days held and season. This calculator combines both so you can compare a compact fast-moving SKU with a bulky or aging SKU before committing inventory.

How WFS Fees Are Calculated

For standard items weighing at least one pound, WFS compares actual and dimensional weight, adds a packaging allowance, then rounds up. Items below one pound use unit weight. Dimensions also determine oversize or big-and-bulky classification.

Total WFS Fee = Base Fulfillment Fee + Surcharges + Storage Fee

  • Dimensional weight: Length × Width × Height ÷ 139.
  • Shipping weight: Greater billable weight + 0.25 lb, rounded up.
  • Storage: Cubic feet × monthly rate × storage days ÷ 30.

Example: A Dimensional Nine-Pound Item

Consider a 6 lb packaged item measuring 12 × 10 × 10 inches, priced at $24.99 and stored for 30 January days.

Step 1: Dimensional weight = 12 × 10 × 10 ÷ 139 = 8.63 lb.
Step 2: Shipping weight = 8.63 + 0.25 = 8.88 lb, rounded to 9 lb.
Step 3: Fulfillment fee = $5.75 + five additional pounds × $0.40 = $7.75.
Step 4: Storage volume = 1,200 ÷ 1,728 = 0.69 cubic feet.
Step 5: Storage fee = 0.69 × $0.75 × 30 ÷ 30 = $0.52, for an $8.27 total.

Key Factors That Change WFS Cost

  • Packaged dimensions (High): Reducing empty space can lower dimensional weight and storage cost together.
  • Oversize thresholds (High): Crossing a length or girth boundary adds a surcharge and can trigger a 90 lb floor.
  • Inventory age (High): Slow stock can move into peak or long-term storage rates.
  • Product flags (Medium): Apparel, hazmat and sub-$10 items each add fulfillment charges.

Assumptions and Limitations

The estimate applies published US WFS base rules and treats the entered storage age as one continuous period at the selected month’s rate. It does not forecast inventory movement across multiple months.

  • Excluded services: Prep, inbound transportation, returns, removal and disposal are not included.
  • Promotions: Temporary seller credits or storage waivers are not deducted.
  • Rate changes: Confirm the final estimate in Seller Center before shipping inventory.

WFS Fee Calculator FAQ

When does WFS use dimensional weight?
For standard units from one through 150 pounds, WFS uses the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight. Dimensional weight is packaged cubic inches divided by 139, so compact packaging can directly reduce the fulfillment tier.
What makes a WFS item oversize?
The first oversize tier starts when the longest side exceeds 48 inches, the median side exceeds 30 inches, or length plus girth exceeds 105 inches. A higher tier begins above 96 inches or 130 inches length plus girth.
How does peak storage work?
From October through December, inventory held more than 30 days adds $1.50 per cubic foot per month to the regular $0.75 rate. Inventory at 30 days or less keeps the regular rate under the published schedule.
Does the total include referral fees?
No. This page estimates WFS logistics charges only. Use the Walmart Fee Calculator for Marketplace referral fees, then combine both results with product cost, advertising and returns for a complete margin model.
